I was just sent this email by a dear friend and felt the need to share this with all of you. The message it sends surely hits home.
A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to 'Dad.' With the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the letter.
Dear Dad:
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it's not only the passion...Dad, she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it.
Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren.
Love, Your Son John
PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house.
I Just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than a Report card that's in my center desk drawer.
I love you.
Call me when it's safe to come home.

WOW, that drives the point home.
I have seen a version of this before. Definately makes you think...
It has got me wondering if this is an urban legend or did some parent somewhere actually get a note like this?!?
WOW! If Sam ever leaves me a note I'm going to jump to the end of it first.
Talk about a wake up call.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To this! Thank heavens my little girl is only 18 months!
You switched back to the old comment form--yey for that!
But BOO for me being in 3rd place!!!!
I might let Kim win first--since she REALLY wants it and it WILL be her birthday....what are the travel tins you win for 2nd place by the way?
I've been thinking more and more about this letter. (I've been in a very reflective mode lately) I so hope that when Sam is this age that he'll know that he can come to me and talk and not leave a note like this one. I hope that he knows that I love him no matter what his grades will end up being.
Oh Nicole! Are you serious???? That would mean the world to me right now. I've had such an awful month (past 30 days or so) and this would be a bright spot in it for me.
And now I'm wondering...what happens in the event of a tie ;) :D
Please do make me have to come up with a tie breaker!!
Hehe!!!!! :) Ok Kirsten I won't.
If it means that much to you Kim I will let you :D Thanks for following my bloggity blog by the way :) Happy birthday to you! :) I will come in second though! Once I figure out what the tins are....
Hey is everyone counting me out already?!?!!?
Saw someone tweeted you about this post...did they think the title was serious? They probably didn't even read the post right?
No kidding. I was pretty sure they didn't even read the post, they just figured I was questioning way parents drink. Geesh!!! I KNOW why parents drink...hehehe
Justice, you are surely not out of the race my dear.
LOL! Love this! It is so true!
Thanks Nicole! And you're welcome for the follow....and thanks for mine. :)
And no, I haven't counted anyone out of the race Justice.
Kirsten...how did you get a widget for the tweet/retweet on your posts? I'm think I might like to have that on mine too.
Was sitting down this evening and was thinking of this post any why someone probably retweeted it. Maybe they wanted to show someone else that...yes, there really are worse things your kid could do than to bring home some not so good grades.
Maybe I was thinking of it because Sam's teacher emailed me today letting me know that he's getting all A's and one D. We just moved that D up to a solid C tonight. Hopefully we'll get it back up in the next few weeks. :)
I know he's only nine right now and in 4th grade but this letter states it so well...there are worse things. I know so many other boys his age that are already in so much trouble.
So, Kirsten...thanks for posting this.
LoL! Justice, no we weren't counting you out--especially not since you pulled into the lead ;)
That being said I thought you had commented earlier that you didn't have the determination of me and Kim--Hehe!!! Guess you're proving yourself wrong!!!
Nicole I also remember her saying that...but she has proven to be a fighter in this comment "war" we seem to have going on. :)
